Hi friends! I didn't crawl under a rock, I'm here, just really busy lately.
In my last post I mentioned that I was working on my studio. I've spent an entire week redesigning the room to better suit my needs. I'm sure a lot of you can understand, an art studio NEEDS to be inspiring AND functional. My studio has this crazy ability to get messy REALLY fast! I have the shop supplies and inventory including shipping supplies, boxes, tape and packing peanuts as well as all of my personal crafting supplies.
Over time, everything seems to get all jumbled and mixed together and then you end up with a heap of mess. ;0)
So, it's all redesigned now, and SO MUCH EASIER TO WORK IN!!!
I don't have all of the pictures edited quite yet, but wanted to at least share the "upcycle" of my big black shelf, that formerly was a catch all for shop supplies.
My husband helped me haul the shelf to the backyard, it's a monster.
We sanded it, just a bit to make the paint stick. Then it took 2 coats of English Linen flat paint to cover the black. After it was completely dry, I sanded the corners and edges to give it an aged, vintage look.
I had an idea to create a collage of vintage wallpapers on the back of the shelves, inspired by Alicia, Pam and Denise.
Here are the shelves, half way into the project... so good so far!
To make the collage, I simply cut the wallpapers into small squares and rectangles, and yes, I used Mod Podge, the old fashioned way. It worked perfectly! I only used the glue on the back of the papers and each edge to seal, because some of the papers would bleed and discolor.
The completed collage, I'm so happy with the results! :0)
It came out beautifully, I couldn't be more happy with it.
I brought it inside, added some goodies for inspiration on the shelves. I'll use the bottom shelves and drawers for supplies that aren't that pretty to look at... tools, misc. boxes and jars and books.
(These photos aren't the best, I took them in the morning so they are a little blue-ish and shadowy. I still need to add the door handles too, I just noticed! he he he )Here is the end result...
A funny angle, but this is my custom shop sign made by Jenny and Aaron of Everyday is a Holiday... my favorite!
That's it for today friends... more photos to come of the rest of my studio... I even made a "before" video, if I can stand to post it... kind of embarrassing! ;0)
One last thing, I just wanted to invite you all to check out Sugar*Sugar on Facebook! I just opened a fan page there where you can keep connected with me! Find it HERE!! :0)
