a teeny break!

Oh my goodness! This past 2 weeks has been a whirlwind for us! My husband has come and gone on 2 business trips and tomorrow we are leaving to take the kids to Disneyland! YEAH!!!!

I LOOOOOVE DISNEYLAND! It's my favorite!

I am getting all the luggage packed tonight, but wanted to stop by my blog before I left to show you some fun goodies!

In just a few short weeks, I will be joining some blog pals at Jenn's Garden Retreat in Georgia. I am so excited and really, cannot wait to go... it will be such a needed break for me!

I made up these little pretty little goody bags to add to the SWAG ("stuff we all get") swap bags for the event. I just thought they looked so sweet together so I snapped a few photos before they were packed to ship.

So fun!!

I won't be home until next week, so I'll pop in asap with some fun photos of the happiest place on earth!!

Handmade Chunky Books

Hello friends! :0)

The weather here is crazy HOT! 96 today, and it's only APRIL! ugh! No fair!! I so enjoy the springtime weather and well, let's just say, summer... you are not my favorite!

Anyway, enough about the weather. I wanted to show you some books that I made! I've been wanting to make these ever since I made THIS ONE for myself.

I was in such a groove, I made both of these in one day! I predict there will be many more in my future.... :0)

Okay, these little chunky books are meant to be like, journals and/or scrapbooks...my husband said, "Pretty, buuuut what do you do with it?" 

I replied, "LOOK at it silly!" lol

I use my book for keeping my important internet contact info. and passwords, but you could do anything with them. Journaling, add photos, doodle, art journaling... make a little brag book, add inspirational quotes you enjoy, crafty ideas keeper, dream journal... you get the idea.

So the first book, 4.5" by 4.5" square, 12 pages, bright pastels, very ME! Each page is stitched with aqua thread, distressed for a "vintagey" feel and totally embellished with all of my favorite materials....millinery flowers, vintage and new trims and ribbons, pretty papers, buttons, paper embellishments, and the list goes on!

Fun right???

The second book is 10 pages, 4.5" by 5.5", pinks, creams and golds, each page is stitched with hot pink thread, distressed and embellished with lots of fun goodies! I left the label blank on the front so the new owner can personalize it. ;0)

Vintage Apron Love

I was so happy to be a part of Stephenie and Heather's Altered Apron Swap! You may have already seen some of the gorgeous altered aprons around blogland... I'm a few days behind on my blog, so I'm going to catch you up!

I was over the moon when I received my apron from Tiffany of Shabby Scraps. She has really great pictures on her blog of my sweet apron, I wish I could do it justice!!

First, Tiffany sent along these sweet little pink kitchen goodies, that I am ALREADY using! ;0)

I love the vintage style apron tag! Isn't it great?!?

Here is my amazing apron, such a treat!! And you will see, she did SUCH a perfect job of making it "me".

Perfect pale aqua millinery flowers...

I love these little rosette flowers she made from vintage fabrics... so adorable!

And the best part, look at the pink and white polka dot applique "A".... so perfect!!!!!!!!

Pom poms, pink, aqua, posies! Need I say more? Thank you SOOOOO much Tiffany!!!

I LOVE IT!!! It's going to get a lot of use!! :0) You'll be seeing it again very soon at Jenn's art retreat!!!

I also had the privilege of making an apron for Miss Jessica of Such Pretty Things. She loves vintage millinery, pastels, pink and aqua.... our color schemes are practically identical! So I was really happy to be chosen to make her apron!!

I sent along a few little art goodies, cause that's what we all love, right?

I used a pale pink vintage dotted swiss apron. I LOVE dotted swiss fabric! It is just so dainty and feminine.

 
I added some trims, vintage millinery flowers, vintage buttons and velvet ribbons.... really fun to make as you can imagine!

I hope Jessica loves it!!

Spring Break

Spring break so far has been really nice! We had a little rain and a thunderstorm last night, which is getting to be very rare in Central CA, so we were happy for that!

Kids have had friends over every night, lots of pizza and junk food... salad and water for me! ha ha

I am glad to have a bit of a slow week, for the shop's sake. I've been working on this banner for what seems like forever! I usually try to get custom orders made and out to customers within a week, but things seemed to keep setting me back on this project. Thank you Anita for being so patient with me!

This is her custom sugary banner, it is 2/3 the size of the normal banners I make, so she can hang it over her desk area at work.

I snapped some photos while working, just love these fluffy glittered ruffles. I'm thinking of making some for the shop, premades... what do you think? I'm thinking like, your name, or a word or blank centers... let me know what y'all think!

I also made these individual banners for Anita's upcoming art gathering. She is going to give them as gifts to each gal attending. She asked for extra sugary goodness, and let me tell you, I went crazy!

I'm only going to show those few peeks in case some of the gals might be reading this!! ;0)

I'm also working on an altered apron for a swap... I'll have to show those pics next time, but I can show you the materials I've gathered so far.

Maybe this week I can also get started on my black monster of a shelf.... thanks for your ideas by the way... I'll surprise you with the results!

what's in store...

Thanks for all of your reassuring comments on my last post! I just feels better to know I'm not alone! ;0)

To answer a few questions about the last post, a few readers were wondering where to buy these sweet little cupcake stick pins...

They come from an ADORABLE etsy shop called GiGiMinor's Pinks and Needles.
It looks like she's taking a little break at the moment, but I'm sure she could use your support when she returns to her shop. ;0)

Also, these little foil crowns are from Andrea Singarella's One Hundred Wishes! One of the best shops EVER!

She also carries these AMAZING prize ribbons... you will LOVE them!!

As I'm making preparations to open my new website, I am slowly acquiring new inventory for the shop. I am SOOOOOO excited and can't wait to open! I've got so many ideas and things I want to offer.

I thought today I would give you a few peeks of some of the new items you will find in the new shop! Sound good??

 

You've seen these before on several of my projects...and so many have emailed asking if I could offer them to you, the answer is finally YES!

I first found these little blossoms locally, and when I bought the scrapbook store out, I had to find more on etsy. I used all of those up and now I'm sooo happy that I can finally sell them myself! :0)

These are just the sweetest little velvet blossoms with pearly centers. Come in lots of colors too!

 

I decide to go ahead an make these available for purchase, now in my etsy shop, Sugar*Sugar.

 If you are a regular reader, you know that I love trims, new and vintage...I can't get enough of them! So I am stock piling a bunch a trimmings for the shop! Yay! All that I'm showing today are new trims, but some have a vintage feel to them, I think you will appreciate.

 

 

And who doesn't love this tinsel wire?!?! So fun and whimsical! I'm working on a project right now that uses a lot of this and it just adds so much sweetness...I'll show you as soon as it's done! It really is like sugar on top!

 

Lastly for today, I wanted to show you my new storage shelves. Actually, they are really old, and I've painted this monster like 5 times... I want to paint it again... I'm thinking HOT PINK!?!  Any opinions??

 

 

Maybe I can do a vintage wallpaper collage on it? Seen HERE, HERE and HERE...
